Stories
The Art of the Mountain Mutt -- Great stories about great waggers.
Mean Imogene (InsideOutside, September, 2010) -- War stories from the Imogene Pass Run, a 17-mile long, one-mile thick quickstep over hellacious old roads between Ouray (7,811') and Telluride (8,820') Colorado.
The Turnout Concept (Mountain Gazette #146) -- This short piece explicates a fundamental, overlooked principle of mountain driving. Especially useful for newbies and visitors.
Porterhouse - Jive -- In November, 2007, I received an "Eppie" from Denver Poet Laureate Chris Ransick and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper for winning the Vonnegut Depreciation Contest. The idea was to write a page of bad Vonnegut, mentioning the Wynkoop Brewery.
Courageous Pulls Through (Mountain Gazette #120) -- Mostly a love story about a guy and his truck, this piece also describes how Patricia and I met in a blizzard on a volcano. Not exactly epic, but good for a laugh. The publication of this story led to a reunion with Dan Erfurdt. He hasn't changed a bit.
