In the summer of 2011, I was interviewed by Arielle Nobile of Legacy Connection Films for her cable show, Belonging in Boulder: Unexpected Stories from Your Neighbors (Episode 4). The episode debuted on September 18th. I'd just returned from my friend Dale Miller's wake, so I talked mostly about Dale and the nature of friendship. I'm in the latter half of the show, but I recommend watching the entire 27 minutes. The first part, which features textile artist Denise Perreault, is interesting and inspiring. Actually, all of the episodes are worth watching. Arielle is doing a great job on the series.
Writing Projects
Parnassus On Wheels (Musical) -- In 2001, I adapted Christopher Morley's classic novel for the screen. The script placed well in many contests, but never sold. The story is too colorful and ingrained in American literary lore to let languish, so I recently rewrote it as a musical. I have a good draft, but will be tweaking it as collaborators come on board.
The Art of the Mountain Mutt -- Outdoor folks often share a deep bond with dogs, but I seldom read about our furry companions in nature magazines. So I wrote this long piece that was published in September, 2010. I drew on rich experience with some exceptional canine units. In fact, I have so much material, I'm expanding it into a book.
A Natural History of Hot Springs -- Hot springs were important crucibles and incubators of early life -- were perhaps even the birthplace of life -- and they still nourish and shelter many of the most bizarre creatures on our planet. So much has been learned in recent decades from hot springs that the discoveries have spawned new fields of study -- specifically, astrobiology and genomics. I will complete this book in 2011.
